Governance of state owned enterprises
The training course in detail
Overall theme and context
State-owned enterprises or public-sector organisations play an essential role in the economic and social development of French-speaking African countries. Their activities result in successful investment projects, improved essential services, and greater fiscal sustainability for the government. For these reasons, it is essential to strengthen the performance of these types of companies, the autonomy of their management, and their responsibility to the public (accountability). It is also important to clarify the framework for relations between the government and the businesses and enhance the ability of state-owned enterprises to finance their investments independently.
This MOOC (massive open online course) offers a comprehensive overview of the main issues in the governance of public-sector companies and organisations while exploring innovative management methods. The MOOC also seeks to emphasise the importance of environmental and social issues (and, more generally, sustainable development) in the management and supervision of state-owned enterprises, as well as in the analysis of their performance.
