The training course in detail

Overall theme and context

The African Private Equity Fellowship, which was designed in partnership with AFD’s subsidiary PROPARCO and France Invest’s Africa Club, aims to strengthen the investment sector in Africa. It enables African investment fund professionals and senior corporate finance experts to develop their skills and network in a community learning approach involving both African and European funds. This training programme is available in several formats: a “foundational” MOOC (massive open online course) for a broader audience that explores the fundamentals of portfolio management in Africa, a tutored, expert-level SPOC (small private online course) for a selection of 50 participants, and a mentoring programme.

Learning objectives

  • To build the capacity of African professionals already working or wishing to work for an investment fund.
  • To develop joint practices and strong links between the diverse actors in the field.
  • To create a learning community for European and African funds.

Teaching and activities

The African Private Equity Fellowship teaching method is based on a combination of fundamental theory and specific practical modules. It combines video and webinar presentations by experts with discussions between professionals to share experiences. Peer-to-peer interactions and the creation of a strong learning community with long-term benefits are essential parts of this training course.
