The training course in detail

Overall theme and context

Following the signing of the Paris Climate Accords in 2015, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) were submitted by certain signatory countries as the first milestone in their commitment to carbon neutrality and environmental resilience. Today, the countries committed to these goals need to implement the objectives outlined in the NDCs by implementing low-carbon development trajectories and policies of resilience in regards to the effects of climate change.

Learning objectives

  • To understand the challenges of carbon neutrality and the planning of decarbonisation trajectories by different countries.
  • To articulate the objectives of the Paris Climate Accords, the NDCs, and long-term national strategies for decarbonisation and territorial resilience.
  • To identify the stakeholders involved in this planning at national levels and to understand their roles.
  • To understand the processes involved in drawing up long-term strategies, using as an example the methodology adopted by Colombia to develop its strategy.

Teaching and activities

This course is made up of two complementary modules:

  • Module 1: How to achieve carbon neutrality? The process of developing long-term strategies
  • Module 2: A case study on the design of Colombia’s long-term strategy.

Each module offers an assessment of acquired knowledge, quizzes, and exercises throughout the course, as well as additional resources for further study.
