The training course in detail

Overall theme and context

Mobility plays a vital role in meeting the needs of citizens in the face of the rapid urbanisation that is transforming African cities. The “Sustainable Urban Mobility in Africa” MOOC (massive open online course), which has been developed in partnership with the CODATU sustainable urban mobility organisation, the Université Senghor, the MobiliseYourCity sustainable mobility partnership, and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, aims to provide general knowledge on transport and mobility issues in African cities. Through the first-hand accounts of experts and actors from African metro areas, discussion forums, and interactive exercises, participants will discover effective approaches to planning sustainable urban mobility and anticipating the challenges of the future.

Check the Facebook of the MOOC for Fresh News.

Learning objectives

  • To discover the specific features and challenges of urban mobility in African cities.
  • To understand the provision and demand for transport services.
  • To analyse the governance, planning, and financing of public transportation.
  • To gain insight into the management of mobility projects.

Teaching and activities

This MOOC is based on a teaching system that combines videos on specific topics by experts, personal accounts and feedback, and examples of projects in major African cities.
