The training course in detail

Overall theme and context

This MOOC (massive open online course) on gender has been designed in partnership with Expertise France, the ITC-ILO training centre, and the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. It aims to strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of development project staff and partners of development institutions with regard to gender issues. More specifically, it seeks to improve the unequal gender relations in the planning and implementation of projects run by development organisations while ensuring that the strategic interests of each institution are met.

Learning objectives

  • To learn definitions and concepts related to gender and development projects.
  • To understand the links between gender and human development, gender and empowerment practices, gender and sustainable development, and gender and peace and security.
  • To integrate the practices and tools of gender mainstreaming into public organisations and public policies and projects.
  • To learn how to conduct an analysis of gender roles throughout the project cycle.

Teaching and activities

This MOOC uses an educational approach that ensures the knowledge acquired can be applied in operational settings. By combining theoretical and practical components, the modules and activities proposed enable development organisations to integrate gender issues into the various phases of a project and implement them throughout the project cycle.
