The training course in detail

Overall theme and context

There are several ways to understand the role of the arts and to support artists as part of the mission to fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals. This workshop approaches the arts as a catalyst that can nurture and strengthen a sustainable development strategy, regardless of the sector (urban development, agriculture, health, education, environmental issues, access to essential services, etc.). The arts appeal to emotions and inspire individuals and communities in every corner of the world. With this in mind, a number of development initiatives have adopted practical measures to bring the arts and artists together with local projects and residents through a collective creative project.

Learning objectives

  • To think collectively about the possible links between the arts and sustainable development.
  • To draw inspiration from existing arts and development projects.
  • To develop artistic projects that can combine with the Sustainable Development Goals in a mutually beneficial manner.
  • To enhance leadership and management skills for arts and development projects.

Teaching and activities

This programme features round tables, inspirational speakers, field visits, co-construction workshops using creativity and collective intelligence techniques, and personalised feedback on participants’ project ideas.
